We need your time, enthusiasm and expertise!
  Dress for Success is a volunteer-driven organization and depends on the support of the community to deliver our programs and services to disadvantaged women. Without volunteers, we simply would not be able to fulfill our mission.

Join the more than 9,000 Dress for Success volunteers worldwide and help women on the road to self-sufficiency!

Below are some examples of ways that volunteers can assist Dress for Success at the local level. Please note that
not all positions are available at every affiliate. Visit Dress for Success Affiliates to learn about the volunteer needs at the Dress for Success nearest you.

Personal Shopper
Volunteers can work one-on-one with a Dress for Success client to help her select her professional attire and to provide support and encouragement as she prepares for her interviews. Once a woman becomes employed, she returns to Dress for Success for additional clothing to help her build a working wardrobe. Volunteers assist with this second visit as well, ensuring that women choose items that can be mixed and matched to create several outfits appropriate for the workplace. Personal shopping is an enjoyable and rewarding way to boost women's confidence and make a direct impact on our clients lives.

Career Center Specialist
Working with the Career Center program gives volunteers the opportunity to: support our clients in their job searches; review and edit resumes; help write cover letters; and offer interview tips. Career Center volunteers meet with Dress for Success clients in the affiliates office at various times during the week and on Saturdays. Assisting a woman as she continues her professional growth and development is a fulfilling and valuable experience. Note: Visit our Career Center page for a list of affiliates offering this program.

Professional Women's Group Expert Speaker
Speakers are needed for Professional Women's Group (PWG) seminars to discuss career development topics such as workplace communications, time management, taxes, balancing work and home, etc. An hour-long presentation is followed by a question and answer period. Speaking to Professional Women's Group members is a wonderful way to meet motivated women who want to further develop their professional skills and advance in their careers. Going Places Network by Walmart Expert Speaker

The Going Places Network by Walmart is a 12-week program for women who have already participated in our Suiting Program but have not yet secured employment. Meetings are held once a week for two hours and include a presentation on a job search topic by a professional speaker, an opportunity to share information and network with fellow members, and one-on-one job search support in the Career Center. Anyone can struggle with unemployment, but no one has to face this challenge alone. The Going Places Network by Walmart helps our participants find the right job! 

Professional Women's Group Mentor
As part of our employment retention services, Dress for Success offers a mentoring program for members of the Professional Women's Group, who are matched with professional businesswomen with at least five years of work experience. These mentors provide support for women transitioning into the workforce. Mentor a PWG member and help a newly working woman obtain the tools and confidence she needs to adjust to her new work environment. Special Events & Fundraising
Special events are a vital part of Dress for Success fundraising efforts, and volunteers are often needed to assist in a variety of ways. Whether sitting on the event committee, helping with set-up and logistics or stuffing invitations or gift bags, volunteers play an important role in Dress for Success events. In addition to working on Dress for Success fundraisers, individuals also are encouraged to host their own. Putting together an event can be as simple as having friends over to watch a movie or share a meal and asking each to bring $25 to donate to Dress for Success. We are always
in need of funding and encourage volunteers to get involved and help on all levels. Find the affiliate in your community or review a list of affiliate upcoming local events.

Short-Term Consulting Projects
Dress for Success is seeking professionals able to do pro bono work in the fields of grant writing, marketing, PR, technology, law and many others. If you have a special skill that you think could benefit Dress for Success, please find the affiliate in your community in your community to learn how you can help.

Public Speaking & Tabling Events
Volunteers have the opportunity to represent Dress for Success at a range of events, such as conferences, speaking engagements at corporations and referral agencies and tabling events for workplace giving programs. If you would like to share your enthusiasm and passion for Dress for Success and inspire others to support the organization, this role could be the perfect one for you.

Administrative Work
As a volunteer-driven organization with limited resources, Dress for Success is often in need of administrative help with tasks such as answering phones, serving as a receptionist, updating databases, photocopying and other similar duties. If you have office skills and would like to offer substantial assistance to an affiliate in your community, we hope you will consider becoming an administrative volunteer for a few hours a week.

Shop Maintenance
Organizing the apparel that Dress for Success receives and stores is an enormous and ongoing task. We always need volunteers who can help sort donations, change inventory in the shop, organize the racks and make sure that the boutique is clean and orderly.

Group Volunteer Opportunities:

Gathering together a group to participate in an afternoon of sorting business suits and separates is a fun way to spend time with friends or co-workers. In addition, sorting is an important task that helps Dress for Success keep our boutiques ready for our clients.

Company-Wide Volunteer Opportunities:

Suit Drives
Companies have an opportunity to hold a suit drive during our S.O.S. - Send One Suit - Weekend, our annual campaign held each year. Employees are encouraged to donate one new or nearly-new interview-appropriate suit or separate to Dress for Success. Many affiliates also collect funds to purchase needed items so that everyone is able to get involved.

Host a Professional Women's Group or Going Places Network by Walmart Meeting
Many Dress for Success affiliates are in need of space to hold Professional Women's Group seminars, which usually take place on weekday evenings. Host companies supply the meeting space and, typically, some light refreshments as well. The ideal commitment is for 12 months. Providing a space for the Professional Women's Group meetings also offers a company's employees the opportunity to become involved with the program's skill-building seminars and to meet the group's members.
