New York, NY - August 1, 2007
Marvese Sugar of Newark and Dress for Success Memphis received the second annual Dress for Success Achievement Awards on July 14 at the organization's Success Summit at Hotel Palomar in Washington, DC. The awardees were recognized for utilizing the leadership skills they acquired at last year's Success Summit with the Professional Women's Group (PWG) of their local Dress for Success affiliate and in their local communities.
"We were thrilled to present Achievement Awards to Marvese Sugar and Dress for Success Memphis," said Joi Gordon, Chief Executive Officer of Dress for Success Worldwide. "These women are leaders and role models for everyone at Dress for Success and in their communities."
Ms. Sugar, the 2006 PWG delegate from Dress for Success Morris County who now resides in Newark, received the 2007 PWG Delegate Achievement Award for organizing a one-day conference for women from a local homeless shelter, with the help of 20 volunteers from her PWG. The conference included career workshops and access to professional attire. Local companies were so impressed with the conference that they offered employment opportunities to women at the homeless shelter after the event. Ms. Sugar received a $500 savings bond from Dress for Success Worldwide, a $250 gift card from dressbarn and a $250 gift card from Banana Republic.
"It was an incredible experience to help other women feel good about themselves and to give them the tools they need to succeed in the workplace," said Ms. Sugar.
Dress for Success Memphis received the 2007 PWG Affiliate Achievement Award for implementing outstanding initiatives such as engaging PWG members in the recruitment process with the Each One Reach One campaign, implementing officer positions for their PWG, and growing their PWG membership.
