FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
DRESS FOR SUCCESS 5K WALK PROMOTES HEALTHY LIVING AND
EMPOWERMENT
Nearly $100,000 raised to support non-profit
New York, NY –
(May 10, 2010)
Saturday’s
rain was no match for the hundreds of people who came to New
York City’s Battery Park to participate in
The
Power Walk for Dress
for Success. Raising nearly $100,000, this was the first
5k walk for the international non-profit organization that
promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women.
The walk celebrated the launch of the Health and
Wellness initiative of the Professional Women’s Group, the
employment retention and career development program for
employed clients of Dress for Success.
More than 30
teams of Dress for Success sponsors, volunteers and clients
walked in support of the organization.
Many made it an early Mother’s Day celebration by
walking with their mothers and children.
In addition, each walker received a sticker to wear
in honor of their
Power Hero, a person who has made an important impact in
their life.
“A
healthy lifestyle is a key component to being independent
and successful,” said Joi Gordon,
CEO of Dress for Success Worldwide.
“I am excited to see so many people embracing this concept.
I am especially pleased to see that many of our Professional
Women’s Group members walked with their children.
It is so important to show our children the benefits
of a healthy lifestyle.”
Once walkers
crossed the finish line, they were treated to a massage,
received healthy living tips and giveaways, and the children
were invited to the Children’s Zone for arts and crafts.
These activities were offered by the event sponsors
Aetna,
Affinity Health Plan, Ban, BriteSmile, The Style Network and
Woman’s Day.
Dress for
Success will be accepting donations for the walk through May
31, 2010.
Cities across the U.S. will host
The
Power Walk for Dress
for Success in 2011.
