The Professional Women’s Group (PWG) Success Summit is a three day conference exclusively for PWG members (delegates) and coordinators that is designed to help attendees develop leadership capabilities through networking, by learning new professional skills and by exploring the topics surrounding employment retention and advancement in the workplace. The Success Summit requires its attendees to take on a charge locally and on behalf of Dress for Success.

                                                

This conference offers delegates and coordinators the tools needed to successfully lead their local PWG programming, to mobilize additional resources in their communities and to bring awareness to a local community initiative—the delegate’s Community Action Project.

 

The PWG Success Summit trains our coordinators on employment trends and the skills necessary to implement cutting edge employment retention programming. For the delegates the Success Summit is a valuable resource for advancing one’s position in the workplace and in life. Both the coordinators and the delegates are selected to attend the Success Summit and each individual proudly represents her affiliate throughout the weekend.

 

2011 Success Summit - A Garden of Success

At the 2011 Success Summit in Dallas Dress for Success recognized the extraordinary work of Ismenie Haile Mariam, a PWG member from Columbus, OH. A delegate at last year's Summit, Ismenie Haile, along with the other delegates, was challenged to create a Community Action Project to make a difference when she returned home. Ismenie Haile, with the help of her fellow PWG members, did just that.

Ismenie Haile (pictured left) and PWG members were aware of the issues plaguing the Near East Side of Columbus: high unemployment and poverty levels, residents that are statistically more susceptible to obesity and no full-service grocery store located within the zip code. Access to healthy, affordable food was non-existent, so Ismenie Haile created Success Organics Produce and Butterfly Garden to eliminate this food desert.

With the help of nearly 200 community members, the group turned a vacant lot into a bustling garden. The produce grown at Success Organics is divided among its members, donated to a local food pantry and sold at a farmer's market. Success Organics is revitalizing the neighborhood by offering education and access to healthy food, cleaning up a run-down area and even giving second chances to residents through volunteer opportunities.

The group has received numerous commendations from government officials and appreciation from local business leaders. Ismenie Haile and the members of the Columbus Professional Women's Group have made a profound difference in a short period of time. Their success is sure to continue and inspire others.  Success Organics truly exemplifies the definition of community.
