How to donate at Dress for Success
When donating your interview-appropriate clothing, please include a list of the items included in your contribution along with your name and mailing address in order to receive a receipt for your tax records. Your list need only include the total number of items in the following categories: suits, separates, overcoats, shoes and purses. No brand names, monetary values or other more specific categories such as "slacks" or "blouses" are necessary.

Clothing donations are accepted the locations below on our public donation drop-off days, except during S.O.S. - Send One Suit - Weekend/holiday weekends.

*We do not accept walk-in/drop off donations at this location. We encourage you to mail in your much needed donated clothing.

You may drop off your donation at any of the following locations, but only on the listed date and during the stated hours. Unfortunately we cannot accept donations outside the specified times. Please note the specific days and times when we accept clothing at these sites:

*Please note that the Merrick location is not a Dress for Success location and we we are no longer accepting donations there. For all Richmond Hill donation inquiries, drop of donation days are monthly and held on the second Saturday of the month from 3 PM - 5 PM. Itemizing your donation is always appreciated.

*Plus-size clothing is accepted on a daily basis only at the Manhattan office. Please contact the local branch manager to arrange a drop off time at 212.684.3611. Please note that drop off days are subject to change; and there are no drop offs on holiday weekends. Thank you.

guidelines for valuing donations

The IRS requires proof that a donation was made and documentation supporting its appraised value. Its guideline for valuing a donation is fair market value – the price that you, an informed and willing seller, would get if you sold the item(s) to an informed and willing buyer. The following list taken from the Salvation Army’s Web site, http://satruck.org/donation-value-guide/womens-clothing, offers price ranges for women’s clothing* in good condition.

*Please note that the value of an item could be higher depending on its brand. If you think your donation is worth $5,000 or more, you will need to have it appraised by a professional before we can accept it. We recommend the following agencies for appraisals:
